In the city

I’m finally here!

Our flight from Kansas City to Newark went well on Sunday, despite it being a 6:30 a.m. flight. Whoo! We were exhausted by the time we got to our residence building. We took the train from Newark into the city and grabbed a cab to take to our place.

As we were in the cab, our driver was going toward our place – on 55th between 2nd and 3rd Avenue – and soon realized that he couldn’t get us there because of a parade. So, he let us off at 56th and 7th (I think), and we tried to walk there. I had four bags altogether (ugh), and Ryan had about three bags along with his tripod. It was not fun. Because of the parade, we couldn’t even walk easily to where we were supposed to go. We zig-zagged through the streets to try to get through to our place. I was very hot and annoyed.

Anyway, when we got there, it was basically like move-in day at the dorms again. There was a line out the door to use the elevators, but honestly, it moved fairly quickly. I was very relieved to get up to my room and unpack. I’m still waiting on some stuff that I shipped here, so I’m not fully unpacked.

First couple of days

My roommate, Megan, and I lived in the same hallway in the dorms freshman year at KU. So, it was nice already knowing her. Our other roommate – we just have one for now, we might get another, but don’t know yet – is from Boulder, CO. Her name is Carey, and she goes to CU. We all get along really well and hung out a bit last night.

Anyway, Ryan, Megan and I walked around a bit the first day. We walked over to Central Park and Columbus Circle and then just hung around here and went to sleep early because we were all exhausted.

The next day we wanted to get some groceries, so we found this small place on the corner of 55th and 2nd and got a few things (that cost $50!). We realized shortly after, thanks to the security in our building that the place we went to was probably the most overpriced place we could go to. Yeah, great, right?

Oh well- the rest of the day yesterday, we went to Central Park and walked around there most of the day. We also walked to 30 Rock to see where I’ll be working this summer. It seems awesome! But I start tomorrow and will tell you more about that later. We saw Times Square last night with all of the lights, which was fun.

Tomorrow

I’m to report to NBC tomorrow at 10 a.m. for orientation. At 9:30 a.m. though, I’m meeting my supervisor and going up to see where NBC Mobile is in the building and meet some other people I guess. I’ll only be there until noon tomorrow, but I’ll be there Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays each week. It won’t be bad, I don’t think. Hopefully, I can get another job on top of that to earn some much-need moolah.

Anyway, I think that’s enough for this post. I’ve taken some photos on my phone so far for anyone to enjoy. Click here to see those photos. (Or you can click below)

I’ll try to post again soon! Miss everyone back in Kansas/ Michigan/ Philadelphia/wherever!

Visit back here soon. 🙂

New York City

Tomorrow’s the big day

Well, tomorrow is the big day.

I leave at 6:30 a.m. for New York City. I’ll be there from then until August 7 interning for NBC Mobile at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Yeah, you could definitely guess that I’m excited.

I really just want to get there- I’m a little antsy. But at the same time, it doesn’t feel like I’ll be there for the summer. It just feels like I’m going on vacation for a week. I don’t know when it’ll kick in.

Goals for the summer:

  • of course, doing a good job at my internship
  • getting another job, whether it be at Bath & Body Works or somewhere else
  • finding the Cash Cab and getting a ride
  • MEETING TINA FEY (I know, it’s a stretch but here’s hoping)

. . . I’m sure there are others, but I’m too tired to think about them right now.

Anyway, I’ll keep this short. I’ll miss all of my family and friends and Lawrence! Thanks to all who have helped me along the way and who will continue to help me in NYC. Love you all! See you in August. 🙂
